Jonathan Saunders was in town final week apt show his own Resort accumulation (and host a tiny get-together by the Bowery), but I caught up with him at Escada, where he debuted the capsule accumulation he devised for Escada Sport Resort. Saunders brought a splash of color—to mention the least—to the German label’s friendly-priced diffusion name. The color-blocking that made up much of his namesake collection’s recent offerings reappears here, with pegged trousers and ditches in electric blue, blue and green paneled minidresses and creased skirts, and a publish that’s literally color-blocked—that is to say, of colored blocks. Accessories, including totes, straps, and trompe l’oeil wedges with graphic “heels,” elect up the theme. My personal preference idea was a blown-out houndstooth publish, which was shown in a contrast silk blouse and skirt see (left). Saunders spoke of bringing a fashionable, younger buyer apt Escada’s stores and to Lord & Taylor, where the collection ambition bow. As of immediately, he’s slated to begin with Resort and potentially migrate ashore to pre-fall, yet whether he paints crowds—and I wouldn’t be surprised—I bet the label will court him because Fall and Spring, too.
